Live Poker versus Online Poker

Live Poker Versus Online Poker

Cheating Holdem Poker Games: I think it's a good idea to mention cheating when we are talking about poker in general and specifically online and regular casino games. Not many people are worried about being cheated when they play holdem at a real casino; they are more likely to be worried about some superstition (a "bad" dealer for them, etc). So we are really talking about people cheating when you play holdem poker online. There are two types of cheating in holdem internet poker. The first type of cheating is done by the players and is called collusion. An example of that would be if you and your buddy played at the same table and tried to work together as a team. That's a big no no in live poker rooms and online poker rooms and you'll get booted. It's easy to spot so it is also easy to stamp out. The second type of cheating is by the online poker room itself. This may include not paying you when you cash out, to them actually cheating your hands so you lose to the house players. This is possible but unlikely since it is such a lucrative business that they would make much more money from you if they kept a fair game running then if not. When people usually commit crimes they do it because they think it is easier then getting the money in a legitimate way. This is the opposite with online poker rooms. They make more from keeping you coming back again and again then cheating you once.
Playing Holdem Poker Online At Multiple Tables: At some online poker sites you can play holdem at a number of tables at once. I didn't list this feature as a strength for internet holdem poker sites because while it does increase the number of hands you can get per hour, I think it also keeps you from focusing on the players and making the best decisions possible. To make the best decisions you need to have all the information and this isn't possible if you are seeing that many hands per hour. So I think you see diminishing returns after a certain amount of hands per hour. That doesn't mean you can't still make more money playing two tables then one, but it wouldn't be correct to think that it would double. When I play at multiple tables at once when playing texas holdem online, I usually have one main table that I focus on, then the other table or two are secondary. I play my best game on the first and the other two tables I play ultra tightly to try and avoid any situations where my knowledge of the other player would sway me one way or other.
